Atomized vs Siloed
“In an increasingly atomized world of mediated interactions, we have fewer and fewer communal spaces that unite us.”
- Kate Medley, author
“Atomized" feels like a good way to also describe our new remote/hybrid work culture. More accurate than siloed.
My chemistry career ended in high school, but atoms buzz around and bond together to become molecules and compounds, right? To Kate’s point, it takes more effort these days to mediate that bonding.
Hear me, this isn’t a bemoaner post. I love the freedom created by remote / hybrid work. I also love the collective buzz of an engaged room. It’s why I started Wolf House Fables.
I believe we can sustain the good parts of our atomized world. But it probably means we have to create more and more buzzing rooms that bond us together. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
